Last Supper (A Death) - Motivarti Storyboard Project

Wow. It has been almost two years since I updated here. To be honest I don't really think that too many people will even see this. Blogger really isn't used by artists anymore, is it? I still think it's a shame because for storyboards it is a perfect platform. Especially if you use the lightbox picture viewer to scroll through 'em. Just click on the first picture and use your arrow keys to move through the sequence.

I am currently doing a motivarti mentorship with Ian Abando. It is really great, I've done different online courses before but working with a personal mentor and having regular meetings to discuss your projects really is something else. It is too bad that Motivarti will be ending soon, but it does make it even more special to have been a part of it.

If you ever thought of applying, do it now. It will be the very last term. I have tried to get a mentorship for three years. It pays to be persistent.

These boards are from a project I have been working on the last weeks. These are two subsequent scenes based on A Death, an amazing short story by Stephen King that has been published by The New Yorker, and can be read on their site for free!

The story is about a sheriff in a small town in South Dakota, somewhere in the late 1800's. there has been a horrific murder of a young girl and there are some very strong clues pointing to the not-so-bright farmer's son Jim Trusdale. Everybody in town thinks he is guilty but the sheriff has his doubts. If you can spare half an hour you should read it, it's a masterpiece.

Anyway, this is a scene at the end of the story. Jim has been found guilty after a fast trial and will be hanged in the morning. The sheriff has bought him a good last meal and tries one more time to find out if Jim might remember a piece of information that shows his innocence. I really focussed on the acting in this scene. Ian was a great help and really pushed me to make the most of it.

All of these were drawn digital in Photoshop.
